Aerated and Mixed Batch Composting

The best quality compost can be produced with a combination of aeration and mixing. This composting process is a low cost active composting process for processing clean, higher moisture content wastes such as separated dairy cattle manure or pulp mill solids. Other clean wastes such as poultry litter can also be processed using this technology.

The process includes a 20 ft wide by 6 ft high aerated channel with a stainless steel auger mixing system. Loaders are used to fill the channel to a depth of 5 ft, then again to remove the material from the channel when the composting process is complete. The stainless steel auger consists of a 6 hp electric PLC controlled mixing system that thoroughly mixes the material and breaks preferential air pathways that may develop when composting higher moisture content materials. The time required for the composting process depends on the quality requirements for the finished compost.

The entire process can be housed in a low cost greenhouse type shelter. We recommend hot-dipped galvanized steel arches with stainless steel hardware. The entire process can be fully enclosed and biofiltered if required.
